Joseph Jenkins, Inc. is a family business that includes publishing, retail sales in slate roofing tools and supplies, slate roof contracting, and national and international consulting in slate roofing.

Our slate and tile roof contracting work is achieved primarily by Brent Ulisky and Orion Jenkins. Brent began slate roofing full time in 1997 at the age of 19 (read an article about slate valleys by Brent). Orion began half-time slate roofing, seasonally, at the age of 15, in 2001, then full time at the age of 16. Our contracting work is limited to an area that roughly includes a 40 mile radius from our home/office/shop, near the intersections of state route 8 and Interstate 80 in northwestern Pennsylvania (see map below).

Store fulfillment is handled by Galina Benek, who manages the customer end of our store , and Dawn Myers. They also answer the phone, pack and ship orders and manage inventory.

Joe Jenkins started working on slate roofs at the age of 16 in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 1968 under the tutorship of a 63 year-old named Peter Odrey.  His book, The Slate Roof Bible, published in 1997, sprang from the slate roof restoration trade he had developed over the years. Joe also publishes the Traditional Roofing Magazine and is Executive Director of the Slate Roofing Contractors Association of North America, Inc.

We're located in northwestern Pennsylvania about 29 miles east of the Ohio border (about 10 miles east of the intersection of I-80 and I-79), three minutes off Interstate 80 at exit 29 (Barkeyville, Route 8). Take Route 8 north at exit 29 about 1/2 mile to the first left turn (Gilmore Road), turn left onto Gilmore and go about one mile to the first left turn (Old Beech Road). Turn left onto Old Beech and then go about 1/4 mile to the 3rd driveway on the right (Forest Lane). Turn right onto Forest Lane and you'll find us at the top of the hill.

We're open 9-5 M-F eastern time or by chance or appointment. Joe tends to work late and will often answer the phone after 5 pm.
