Copper Professional Retrofit Style Snow Guard - This is one of the best deals you can get in a heavy-duty copper snow guard that can be installed on existing slate roofs or new roofs! 17.5" overall length, 4" wide face, 12.5" reach, protrudes up from the roof about 3".

 

The superior design of the Pro 100 includes a 1-inch gusset that reinforces the shoe, which makes this snow guard 5X stronger than traditional residential snow guards. The Pro 100 has been tested to withstand a 300-pound point load at any location when applied to the gusset side of the shoe. Simply insert the slotted bar under the slate or shingle, engage a nail with one of the conveniently placed slots and pull to fully secure the bar (12.5" maximum reach to nail). This style snow guard provides fast installation and is ideal for existing applications with slate roofs.

Snow guards should be installed where the potential for the sudden sliding of ice and snow can be hazardous to people or property below. Falling snow is a life safety issue, and careful consideration of liability issues should be part of a carefully designed roof system in all areas prone to winter snow and ice.

The following recommendation is for a typical application, slate size 12" x 18", with a 7.5" exposure, and a roof pitch of 12/12 (45 degrees) and can be adjusted for differing conditions such as high snow loads, or drifting conditions. For this example, the rafter length is 18'.



Guards shall be installed in horizontal rows parallel to the eave. The first row shall be installed on the third course of slate, and spaced no more than 24" apart in the rows. Subsequent rows shall be spaced 30" vertically (4th slate course) and the guards offset 12" from the course below. Install 6 horizontal rows.
