Gough 24 Ounce Copper Snow Guard, Face is 3 1/4" wide and 1 3/8" high.
This is a heavy-duty solid copper snowguard that's nailed into place during the installation of new slate roofs. Snow guards should be installed where the potential for the sudden sliding of ice and snow can be hazardous to people or property below. Falling snow is a life safety issue, and careful consideration of liability issues should be part of a carefully designed roof system in all areas prone to winter snow and ice.
"Retrofit" snowguards are designed to be added to already existing slate roofs. Regular snow guards are designed to be installed on new slates roofs when the slate is being installed.
FOR RAFTER LENGTHS UP TO 16 FEET: Traditionally, in the Midwest for over 60 years, SnoGuards have been installed 30" to 36" on center in each row with 3 staggered rows beginning above the outside wall at the eave, i.e. approximately one per linear foot of gutter line. In the northeast, snowguards are typically installed at every other slate horizontally, and staggered at every horizontal slate course or every other horizontal slate course vertically, with 3 horizontal rows minimum.
FOR RAFTER LENGTHS OVER 16 FEET: The number of rows is increased with rafter lengths over 16 feet and with roof pitches greater than 6:12. OTHER FACTORS Increased snow load in some states require additional SnoGuards per square farther up the roof.
